The fescue species are easily seeded and include the sub species of tall bunching grasses named tall fescue and fine shorter fescues named creeping red, hard fescue, chewings fescue and sheep fescue.
Most Tall Fescue grasses are not made for cold climates and North America and Canada. Bluegrass seems to do better in colder climates. Fine Fescue are better in shady areas and colder climates than Tall Fescue.
Tall Fescue works well in large pastures and can be over seeded to promote growth and fill in areas. Fescues are relatively cheap to buy and require little maintenance which makes them a great choice for large acerage or lawns where the object is to fill in bare areas and produce a green looking lawn with little water and maintenance is needed.
